Engagement Announcements
Traditionally a couple makes a public announcement of their engagement in the local newspaper. This is not a “must,” but it is customary. The engagement announcement has a genre all its own and includes a few details on the parents of the couple (place of residence, livelihood) and generally the education, place of residence, professions of the fiancee’ and fiance’, and something about their wedding plans. Check your local Sunday paper in the lifestyle section for examples. Some newspapers run these at no charge and others charge a small fee for the service. Now is the time to have a good professional photo taken of the two of you together, which you can then run with the announcement in the paper.
